STEAM Fair at Leigh School

The Future Educator Club, led by Tristan Kumor, organized a STEAM fair at Leigh Elementary School on Friday, May 5, 2023. The students set up stations featuring activities such as making rock salt ice cream, exploring the science behind taste buds, building lava lamps, making slime, connecting electric circuits, designing tie-dye shirts and building towers out of spaghetti and marshmallows.

Beyond the fun and entertainment of the event, our high school students had the opportunity to develop important skills and gain meaningful experiences. They learned how to communicate effectively with elementary students and how to work collaboratively to plan and execute a successful event. They also gained valuable teaching experience, such as how to break down complex ideas into simple concepts that younger students can understand and how to keep students engaged and motivated.

On a larger scale, our students learned the energy and effort required when working with large groups of elementary students. They experienced the excitement of putting smiles on students' faces while they were learning. They also had the satisfaction of helping students with their curiosity.

For the elementary students, this event was an excellent opportunity to explore different areas of STEAM (helping us fulfill our K-12 PACE framework) and learn new skills in a fun and interactive way. Thank you to Dr. Sean Rabiola and Allison Carnehl at Norridge School District for partnering with Ridgewood to provide all our students with such a great experience.
