Online Databases

Do you have a research project?  

Then use one of the Online Databases listed below to find the most relevant, accurate, and scholarly information for your project or paper.  If you off campus, you must login in with the library's username and password.   (Click here to get the username and passwords.)  

General Databases (Try Here 1st):  

  • Gale in Context (Student Resources for High School):   This database is a one-stop source for current news and topics.  Can be used in ALL classes.  Includes:  full-text magazines, academic journals, news articles, primary source documents, images, videos, audio files and links to vetted websites.   

  • Encyclopedia Britannica Online:  Explore the fact-checked online encyclopedia with hundreds of thousands of objective articles, biographies, videos, and images.   

  • GVRL: Gale Virtual Reference Library offers an online collection of reference eBooks including encyclopedias and specialized reference sources for multidisciplinary research.

  • Flipster Digital Magazines:  A digital magazine service provided courtesy of your RHS library.  You can download the Flipster App to read these digital magazines on any device.  Click for a description of each magazine.  

  • The Chicago Tribune: The Tribune is a daily Chicago based newspaper.  Get both local and national news. 

  • The New York Times:  Students & Staff have ON-SITE access to The NYTimes.  Access ALL content for Free when you are at RHS. 

  • The Wall Street Journal:   WSJ is an American business and economic-focused international newspaper.  To access content you must enter a username & password both on and off-site.

  • Biography in Context (Gale):  This database is an engaging online experience for those seeking contextual information on the world's most influential people.

  • Environmental Studies (Gale):  This database focuses on the environment and sustainability.

  • Global Issues (Gale):   This multidisciplinary resource helps students understand current world issues, conflicts and events from a global perspective.    

  • Opposing Viewpoint (Gale):  This database is for those seeking contextual information and opinions on hundreds of today's hottest social issues. 

  • Science in Context (Gale):  This database is for those seeking contextual information on hundreds of today's most significant science topics.  

  • U.S. History (Gale):  This database is for those seeking contextual information on hundreds of the most significant people, events and topics in U.S. History.
     
  • World History (Gale):  This database has information on hundreds of the most significant people, events and topics in World History.

  • Consumer Reports:  A nonprofit organization providing unbiased product ratings and reviews since 1936. We put over 4000 products through rigorous testing each year.   (Click here to get the username and passwords.)  

  • Driver's ED Practice Tests:  This resource provides practice tests for cars, motorcycles, CDL, and includes handbooks and FAQ on how to get your driver's license in IL.
