The special education department at Ridgewood High School provides a rigorous and comprehensive program for all students with disabilities. The special education staff at RHS work tirelessly to ensure the academic and social success of all students at RHS. We also work to ensure that our students become adaptable life-long learners and responsible, ethical citizens, with the ability to make informed decisions in a changing global society. We do this by providing a curriculum that is rich with real-world application and practical learning.
As an organization, Ridgewood High School District 234 is dedicated to providing a safe and supportive learning environment for all students while also effectively supporting students within our schools who may present an imminent danger of serious physical harm to the student or others. To accomplish these goals, we are committed to:
- Using trauma-informed and equitable practices for all students,
- Embedding use of proactive SEL and behavioral supports for students across all environments to reduce the instances in which RTO is needed to ensure the safety of a student or others, and
- Utilizing RTO practices as a last resort, only after less restrictive and instrusive measures have been tried and proven ineffective in stopping the imminent danger of physical harm.
The specific action steps outlined in the RTO Reduction Plan articulate the strategies we will use to accomplish these simultaneous goals.
