Ridgewood High School takes great pride in helping students hone skills that build a strong foundation for college and career. In an ever-changing world, skills in the area of STEM are becoming more and more critical. Students have the opportunity to utilize the nationally recognized Project Lead the Way Engineering curriculum and content.
This Introduction to Engineering & Physics course engages students in interdisciplinary activities that apply physics concepts to hands-on engineering projects like building a bridge and catapult, using CAD software to 3D print parts, and learning about environmental factors through the construction of functioning solar cars. These activities not only build knowledge and skills in engineering, but also empower students to develop essential skills such as problem solving, critical and creative thinking, communication, collaboration, and the design process. Students dig deep into the engineering design process, applying math, science, and engineering standards to hands-on projects. They work both individually and in teams to design solutions to a variety of problems using 3-D modeling software, and use an engineering notebook to document their work.
All freshman students are enrolled in this course. Students in this program earn dual credit from both Ridgewood High School and Triton College.
